Strat Wars Ship Editor version 0.7b
So, you've decided you're going to make a ship, huh? Well, congratulations! You've just made the first step towards personalizing your screensaver with your own creation! Not only can you call all your friends over to show them the sweet ship you've made taking out the enemy ships with ease, but you can also post them on the web for the world to admire. Building your own ship for the Strat Wars screensaver is one of the most satisfying endeavors you can take.
Currently, the Ship Editor only runs in Mac OS X, but as soon as the editor hits version 1.0 (or possibly sooner), the Ship Editor will be ported to Windows so that almost everyone can make their own ships for Strat Wars.
Also, as the editor is still in beta, look for future updates and improvements. Every aspect of Strat Wars - the screensaver, the Ship Editor and (soon to come) the Scenario Editor - is being faithfully worked on by our hero, Strati.
If you haven't checked out the downloadable ships, available under the Goodies tab in the main menu, you might want to do that. Double-clicking it to open in the Ship Editor will allow you to play with the ship and get a good sense of what some of that stuff does. The Ship Editor is pretty intuitive and you can learn a lot by doing something and watching the result.
Currently, the ship editor is not "create from scratch" friendly. All ships you make should be changed versions of current ships. It is recommended that you use a copy of the Y.shp for your new ship. The Y.shp provides a great starting model. You can replace everything that needs to be replaced and edit only those values that need changing.
For this document, all values entered in fields and Ship Editor interface elements will be displayed in this typeface for easy identification.
