Common Ship Creation Steps
This is by no means a written-in-stone process, just a suggestion on an order of steps you might want to take for easy ship creation. Each step is linked to the documentation page covering that topic:
1. Model your ship in a 3D modeling program. Make a separate cockpit file, using the ship model as a template. Save both as .3ds files with their texture maps (if there are any) in .jpg format.
2. Launch the Ship Editor with a copy of Y.shp and import your .3ds ship file into the external model. Reposition and align the model. Create or import the collision mesh.
3. Import the cockpit model (if there is one) or remove the Y.shp's cockpit model (if there isn't one). Align the cockpit to the model and position the cockpit view in relation to the model.
4. Set the ship's physical attributes (length, speed, hull integrity and impact force).
5. Arm your ship, removing or altering the guns and turrets of the original Y.shp and/or adding new ones.
6. Tell the screensaver how agile you want your ship to be.
7. Let the screensaver know how you want your pilots to fly the ship.
8. Make a scenario for your ships to fly in.
9. Watch your ships flying around in the screensaver and call all of your friends over to marvel in your glory!
